Process

In order to properly determine a High-Speed Rail alignment that would be of most benefit to the Southern California area, three alternatives were evaluated using typical industry standard practices.

The team began by identifying the project location and affected areas.  After determining the location, the purpose and needs for the project were established, which lead to the identification of three design alternatives to be evaluated.  For each alternative, horizontal and vertical alignments were developed along with an InRoads and an InfraWorks 3D model.

To begin the analysis, the specific project footprint of all three alternatives was identified.  Using this information, an environmental impact analysis was conducted.  A benefit/cost analysis of each alternative was also conducted and led to the development of a weighted decision matrix in order to evaluate the quality of each alternative in addition to the financial aspects of each alternative.
